The day the new system becomes the system of record and the old one stops being used for new transactions.
Go-live is the point at which the new ERP becomes the live system of record. From that date, every invoice, payment, receipt and stock movement is recorded in the new system and the old one is frozen for reference. It follows UAT sign-off, final data migration and cut-over, and it is usually timed to a month or quarter start.
It matters because it is the moment the business is most exposed. Staff are slower, edge cases appear, and finance has to produce the first VAT return and month-end from the new system. A UAE business also has to make sure tax invoices issued on day one are compliant, since there is no reissuing them later without credit notes.
In an ERP project, plan hypercare: the implementer's consultants on site or on call for the first weeks, a daily issues list, and a clear owner for decisions. Do not go live with known blockers on the promise of a quick fix. A go-live gate with a written checklist, signed by both sides, is the practical safeguard.
