FTA

The Federal Tax Authority, the UAE body that administers VAT, excise, corporate tax and e-invoicing.

The FTA, or Federal Tax Authority, is the UAE government body responsible for administering federal taxes: VAT, excise tax, corporate tax, and the e-invoicing reporting regime. It registers taxpayers, issues TRNs, receives returns through the EmaraTax portal, conducts audits and levies penalties.

It matters because almost every finance process in a UAE business now ends at the FTA: quarterly VAT returns, annual corporate tax filings, and from 2027 the near-real-time reporting of invoice data via Accredited Service Providers. An FTA audit will ask for records that reconcile across the ledger, the returns and the invoices issued.

In an ERP project, the practical test is whether the system can produce what the FTA asks for without manual rework: the VAT return in the correct format, the FTA audit file, tax invoices with the mandatory fields, and a clean audit trail. Confirm these during UAT with your own numbers, and keep the ERP's tax configuration under change control after go-live.
