The international network and standards the UAE uses to exchange e-invoices between accredited access points.
Peppol is an international framework of standards and a network of certified access points for exchanging electronic business documents. The UAE has adopted it for e-invoicing using a five-corner model: the supplier, the supplier's Accredited Service Provider, the buyer's ASP, the buyer, and the Federal Tax Authority as the fifth corner receiving tax data.
It matters because Peppol decides how your invoices physically reach your customers and the FTA. Your business does not connect to the network directly. Your ERP hands a structured invoice to your ASP, which validates it, delivers it to the customer's ASP, and reports to the FTA. Each party is identified by a Peppol ID, which in the UAE is tied to the TRN.
In an ERP project, the questions are practical: does the platform have a connector to your chosen ASP, how are delivery failures surfaced to the accounts team, and how do inbound supplier invoices arrive in the purchase ledger. Test the full round trip, including rejections, before go-live.
